I found a few spare minutes, so I decided to post this quick tip;
If you want to go on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire and answer this question correctly, take a look at this quick, 1:11sec, video tip.

Hi Devon, could it be, that this PDMWE option is just a simple link to the corresponding SQL option? It seems to me, that PDMWE has NO consistent strategy to keep filename = ident number, or to keep DRW filename = PRT filename, or to suggest a alternative filename if the filename is used, or to include the revision in the filename ... due to this, there´s no chance to use SWX utilities to check small geometric changes between two revisions if working with PDMWE. I´m "not very happy" with the whole filenaming in PDMWE :-(

Hello u-spam-

RE:"Hi Devon, could it be, that this PDMWE option is just a simple link to the corresponding SQL option?" I don't know.

"It seems to me, that PDMWE has NO consistent strategy to keep filename = ident number," I don't understand what you're saying here.

"..or to keep DRW filename = PRT filename," This can be automated in PDMWE. Using Templates, Drawing Files Names can be inherited from the Assembly/part file name.

"or to suggest a alternative filename if the filename is used," How could it do this? Files have to managed, PDM applications help do this, but it is not a push button operation.

"or to include the revision in the filename" Well, I like the Revision in the file name, but this is not supported in mature PDM/PLM applications. We can't change that, so I choose to work with it.

"... due to this, there´s no chance to use SWX utilities to check small geometric changes between two revisions if working with PDMWE." Well, an easy work around is to check out the files, rename copies of the files and compare away, simple really.

"I´m "not very happy" with the whole filenaming in PDMWE :-(" Thanks for the comments.
